Mary Coughlan to headline the Town Hall

Arguably Ireland's greatest jazz/blues singer returns to her native Galway

MARY COUGHLAN, arguably Ireland's greatest jazz and blues singer, returns to her native Galway for a concert at the Town Hall Theatre on Saturday February 29 at 8pm.

In a career of nearly 40 years, Coughlan has made some of the most uncompromising, wholly personal, and universal music by any Irish artist. While her music mainly draws on jazz and blues - Billie Holiday and Bessie Smith are among her inspirations, she has also incorporated pop, rock, and folk influences, as well as chanson - she is also an admirer of Edith Piaf.

As Q magazine said: "The emotional purity in Mary Coughlan's songs is so fragile that it is possible to become inconsolable when listening to her in a darkened room"; while The Irish News said, “The Galway-born artist doesn’t just take her audiences to church with her music, she practically baptises them with her passion and pain."

Tickets are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777 or www.tht.ie
