How industry is using online learning and MOOCs to roll out operational excellence programmes

In 2013, IT Sligo launched Ireland's first free massive open online course (MOOC ) on Lean Sigma Quality. This seven-week online course has now been delivered to more than 7,500 participants from Irish organisations.

The course consists of weekly online lectures, discussion boards, videos, and quizzes which provide an introduction to Lean and Six Sigma tools. At the end of each week a quiz is completed, and those successfully passing the full course receive a certificate of completion.

Enrolling on a MOOC can be a key part of the progression path for employees who wish to continue their Lean Sigma journey and earn additional qualifications. With fully online programmes available across all the Lean Sigma belts, students are choosing to upskill, while balancing family and life commitments. IT Sligo enrols students from many large multinationals and SMEs such as Ballina Beverages, Janssen Biologics, Abbvie, Pfizer, MSD, Boston Scientific, Allergan, Glanbia, Medtronic, SL Controls, and Crest Solutions.

IT Sligo Online has a 17-year history of teaching online programmes and is the leading provider of online education in Ireland with 30,000 graduates in the past 10 years alone. It offers 130-plus fully accredited courses from Level 6 (certificate ) to Level 9 (master's ).

Applications are now open for a selection of programmes starting in January 2020. For more details visit www.myitsligo.ie
