IT HAS been one hell of a great year for comedy in Galway, with the team at Róisín Dubh Comedy delivering the weekly Tuesday Comedy KARLnival, featuring established and emerging joke-slingers, hosted by Karl Spain.

There have also been some 'craic'ing solo shows, including Grammy Award Winner Patton Oswalt; Comedy Bingo; the biggest Vodafone Comedy Carnival to date, highlights of which will be coming to your TV screens in the New Year.

That trend looks set to continue in 2020, so why not give the gift of laughter to a loved one this year with tickets to one of these great comedy shows: work off the Christmas dinner at Ireland’s biggest bingo rave, Bingo Loco, at The Galmont Ballroom on Friday December 27; Scottish comedy award winner and viral sensation Gary Meikle brings his new solo show, The iBrow Guy, to Róisín Dubh on January 11; Owen Colgan, the Irish cult comedy hero, best known for his role as Buzz McDonnell from Hardy Bucks, is coming to the Black Box Theatre on January 18.

After a complete advance sell-out in Galway with his 2018 show Lock-In, the award-winning Danny O'Brien brings Reformer, his new hour of stand-up, to Róisín Dubh on Saturday January 25; On February 7, Irish Comedian of the Year winner Steve Bennett brings his latest solo show to the Róisín. Expect catchy tunes, effortless charm, and loads of laughs.

'Further down the line in 2020, Australian comedy legend Steve Hughes returns to Galway after six long years'

On February 11 and 12, British comedy legend Jack Dee, a man with too many TV and radio credits to mention, comes to Galway for the first time, performing his new show, Off The Telly, at the Town Hall Theatre. Following on from his sell-out success at #VCCG19 last October, Jason Byrne brings his latest solo show, Wrecked But Ready, to the Town Hall Theatre on February 14.

Star of ITVs I’m A Celebrity… the enigmatic Andrew Maxwell, renowned for his cutting edge comedy and intrepid social commentary, is back from the Australian jungle with a brand new show, Reality on February 28 in the Róisín Dubh. Further down the line in 2020, Australian comedy legend Steve Hughes returns to Galway after six long years with a new solo show, Are You Serious?
