Mannion welcomes tourism funding boost for Clifden and Galway

Eileen Mannion Fine Gael Councillor for Galway County Council has confirmed that both Clifden and Galway City will benefit from funding awarded through Fáilte Ireland’s Destination Towns Scheme.

Up to €500,000 per local authority will be allocated in two rounds by Fáilte Ireland to boost the attractiveness and tourism appeal of our towns.

She said that the Destination Towns initiative will allocate up to €500,000 to each of our local authorities by Fáilte Ireland to develop the tourism potential of their destination towns, including Galway City and Clifden.

“The funding will be aimed at making our towns more attractive and appealing to tourists and will be awarded in two rounds, the first of which will be in Spring 2020 when further developmental work has concluded with the local authorities.

“The attractiveness of our cities and towns are key elements of what draws overseas visitors to Ireland. The new scheme will provide funding for Galway City Council and Galway County Council to make developments in the City and in Clifden that will attract and engage tourists and improve their experiences here.

“This funding will be a huge boost for Clifden’s tourism. Increasing the attractiveness of our town will not only benefit our visitors but our permanent residents too as the investment in infrastructure will deliver long-term economic benefits for local business and the community. I hope it will make Clifden an even better place to live, work and visit,” she said.
