Kumon Galway students recognised for their achievements

Four students received the highest academic awards as gold medal completers at the recent annual Kumon Awards Ceremony. Yusr Yousif, 11 years old, Reuben Florisson (13 ), and Nur Hanif all completed the English programme to university entry level while in sixth class in primary school. Jay Popat completed the programme at the end of second year.

Completers then made a short speech to the audience of approximately 350, describing the impact of the Kumon programme on their lives. Commenting on the awards ceremony, afterwards, Kazuhiro Abe, general manager of Kumon UK and Ireland, described the speeches of these confident young people as a highlight of the evening.

Kumon students commit to daily study. The Mayor of Galway Cllr Mike Hubbard, and Mr Abe presented the students with certificates representing their achievements. Students working six months or more ahead of their peers, worldwide, received bronze medals. Those working two years or more ahead of their peers received silver medals, and gold medals were presented to those working three or more years ahead of their peers.

Four students received special merit awards: Aoife Gannon, Lauren Carr, Luke Tadle, and Kenzo Luistro. Bernadette Hayden presented Joseph Cunningham with the Stephen Hayden Trophy for outstanding personal excellence.
