Extinction Rebellion will hold a Fridays For Future protest in Eyre Square tomorrow at 1pm, and is calling on the public to take part and “demand an end to the age of fossil fuels”.
In a statement the group said: “Government may look like it is acting, but they are just weak ‘plans’ with zero commitment and the time for change has to be now. Our house is on fire — let’s act like it. We demand climate justice for everyone.”
The action is also supported by the Green Party. Green councillor Pauline O’Reilly said: “We’ll be getting behind young people this Friday. The frustration at these events is palpable. They want to look forward to a brighter future. We can turn around the climate crisis but it’s going to take real commitment.”
