A night of trad with Donogh Hennessy & Séamus Begley at Monroe’s Live.

Irish music fans: Saturday September 28th is a date to mark in the diaries as Donogh Hennessy & Séamus Begley take to the Monroe’s Live stage for what’s sure to be a fantastic night of ceol agus craic.

Donogh is a Dublin-born guitarist, music producer and recording engineer, perhaps most well-known as the former guitarist in Lúnasa. He started playing guitar at about the age of 14. However, it wasn’t until he moved to Dingle at 17 that he first started to listen to Irish traditional music. In no time he was hooked and playing sessions 7 nights a week and spending his days learning and writing tunes on the tin whistle.

He has performed and recorded with many leading Irish bands/artists, including Sharon Shannon, Lumiere, John Spilanne and Seamus Begley. He has also recorded music for films and plays and has written two music books. Donogh owns and runs Studio Mhic An Daill recording studio in Dingle

Séamus Begley is a renowned singer with a large repertoire of songs in both English and Irish. Long-associated with the box and possessor of one of the tradition’s tenderest voices, his voice is an enigma: emanating from Begley’s strapping frame, it embodies a vulnerability that seems at odds with his garrulous personality. However, his song choices suggest an interpreter completely at home in that delicate space where singers must venture to fully inhabit a song.

(The Irish Times ).

A member of the famous musical family from Baile na bPoc near Baile na nGall (Ballydavid ), he has been performing regularly for decades, bringing the singing of his native west Kerry to wider audiences.

So if you’re a fan of Irish music, this is the gig for you. Two fantastic musicians, one incredible night.
