SET YOURSELF On Fire was the album that established Stars as an indie-rock band of note and they will perform that acclaimed work in Galway next month as part of their current European tour.
Released in September 2004, Set Yourself On Fire was the Canadian bands third album. The single 'Ageless Beauty' proved their breakthrough hit in Canada, while 'Your Ex-Lover Is Dead' was featured on The O.C. The album was a Juno Award nominee for Alternative Album of the Year.Reviews were full of praise. The Guardian said, "these powerful pop songs bloom to match the intensity of the feelings they lament"; The Irish Times declared, "the band's lightness of touch, eloquent intrigue and musical smarts provide even more reasons to reach for the Stars"; while Pitchfork said, "Set Yourself On Fire is about breaking up and breaking down, and as such the album feels wontedly cathartic, like the moments right after you hit your emotional nadir and start getting your shit together."
To mark the album's 15th anniversary, Stars play Set Yourself On Fire, at Strange Brew in the Róisín Dubh on Saturday September 28 at 8pm. However the band are not resting on their laurels or past glories, as they have released the new songs, 'Privilege' and 'We Called It Love', and are working on a new album.
“We’re back!" a collective band statement notes. "We have a new album. It was recorded in Montreal and Connecticut with the great producer, Peter Katis. It’s our first with our friends at Last Gang. We made this record for ourselves, for our kids, and for you. And we are so happy and grateful that you’re still listening to our music.”
