Tender process begins for €6 million Intreo Centre for Tuam

The tender process for the new Intreo Centre, located at the Old Library in Shop Street, Tuam, has begun with applications to carry out the work required to be submitted before September 30.

The centre, which will be co-funded by the Office of Public Works and the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection, represents an investment of circa €6 million in the north Galway town.

The centre will bring together all social welfare services, and will effectively open up a new public building for Tuam. The Minister for Rural Affairs and Galway East TD, Seán Canney, said it was “another important element to the regeneration of Tuam town centre”.

After the tendering process is complete, a contractor will be appointed to enable construction to begin next year. The project was delayed because of a legal query about the original planning application, but revised planning permission was given by the Galway County Council in March.
