Pádraicíns

At this time of year many of us find ourselves making the pilgrimage to Connemara to drop our offspring out to the Gaeltacht to brush up on their Irish language skills. An excellent stopping off point for lunch or dinner is Pádraicíns Bar & Restaurant overlooking Galway Bay.

It is a maritime themed seafood bar and restaurant with bed and breakfast available too. A dark, traditional style bar opens out to a light filled restaurant where the views of the sea are second to none. The is plenty of space for children to roam outside in good weather and older ones can be let off the leash to play on the beach while waiting for their food to arrive.

From breakfast, through to lunch, to the evening bistro menu, Pádraicíns serves food all day long. While there is a wide variety of dishes, given the location there is a particular emphasis on seafood.

In the morning you will find everything from a breakfast bap to stacks of pancakes or French toast. Lunch sees a variety of soups and sandwiches and a roast of the day. There are pots of mussels, calamari, fish and chips, and other seaside favourites to choose from. Portions tend towards the generous side so that stroll on the beach beforehand may be a very good idea. Desserts are also worth leaving room for.

It is a busy spot given its location, with plenty of parking for passing tourists and locals alike. It is always worth a visit, not just for the magnificent view.
