Delicious food in a historic setting at Cooke’s

For almost 20 years Cooke's Restaurant & Wine Bar has been serving up local fare to generations of Galwegians and holidaymakers.

The restaurant is located in a beautiful medieval stone building at 28 Upper Abbeygate Street, in Galway's most historic quarter. Originally a merchant townhouse from the 1600s, the Cookes purchased the building and restored it to its medieval state.

During the refurbishment an original granite marriage stone of the Ffrench and Bodkin Galway Tribes was uncovered and is still standing above the original fireplace in the newly opened medieval room on the third floor. Steeped in local history, this intimate dining hall is a perfect setting for any occasion.

With people's attitudes to food and dining out constantly changing, Cooke's has witnessed several food trends come and go over the years. Peggy Cooke has noticed that one thing that never goes out of fashion is simple food prepared and cooked well.

The food offering at Cooke's focuses on classical dishes prepared with the freshest local ingredients. The emphasis is on prime quality produce with little fuss. It caters for all food tastes with a selection of fresh local seafood, prime Irish meats and cheeses, vegetarian, vegan, and home-made bread and desserts.

The lunch menu caters for everyone, from the healthy eater with a popular selection of Buddha bowls and salads, to the comfort eater with Cooke's famous Irish lamb stew, seafood pie, fish 'n' chips, and signature sandwich selection.

Cooke's is an ideal location for any event with four separate dining areas and a garden rooftop, and menus to suit any budget.

Trish will be on hand to help organise and personalise your special event, be it a birthday celebration, engagement party, intimate wedding, Communion or confirmation, or corporate event.

The daytime menu is served from 12 noon to 5pm, with dinner from 5pm to 10pm. An early bird menu is available for €20.
