Cultural Connections – Celebrating Cultural Diversity

Galway Traveller Movement in association with the Galway City Museum are hosting the Traveller Living History Exhibition as a day event on this Saturday June 15 in the Museum from 12pm to 5.00 pm. The exhibition has been produced by the Meath Traveller workshop, The scene includes a fully restored Barrel Top Wagon, a traditional tent, a flat cart, working tin-smith, A storytelling Traveller woman and of course, a camp-fire.

Local Galway exhibits, live music by the well know performer Kathleen Keenan and demonstrations of traditional paper flower making and pocket making will hopefully enhance the experience.

“ The Traveller Living History exhibition is not to be missed. It is a celebration of our shared history, culture and identity which we want to share with other communities, said Joanna Corcoran, Community worker with GTM

“It is a recognition of my Traveller culture and also a validation of my culture as a celebrated part of Irish society. This recognition is part of our broader struggle for Traveller rights, it is very important that cultural rights are part of that struggle,” she said.

“Taking the time out to celebrate cultural diversity is an important opportunity for Galway City and County. There is an open invite for the public to visit the exhibition and meet and talk to members of the Traveller community on the day” says Annemarie Roche, Community Health Worker with GTM .
