An Cheathrú Rua seeks name for language planning project

People in An Cheathrú Rua are being asked to suggest a name for the language planning project underway in the area.

Majella Ní Chríocháin, recently appointed Language Planning Officer says that it is important that people feel that they own the project, and that the name should reflect the fact that it is a local project.

‘We will be launching our Language Plan at a fair we are organising for Saturday October 5 and we want to ensure that we have signage, badges, and other publicity material with the name and logo on them before then’ said Seán Mac Donncha, Chair of the steering committee.

‘We are fortunate that the Irish language is very strong in An Cheathrú Rua, we have a very active and energetic community and we have many resources and facilities here.

“This is cause for celebration and that is what the Fair will be all about. We are inviting sports and recreational clubs, voluntary groups and private individuals who offer services through Irish to take part in the Fair, which will include exhibitions, entertainment, music and a big community lunch.

“This event is geared at the whole community, young and old and everyone is welcome,” he said.

To send in suggestions or to express an interest in taking part in the Fair, call Majella on 0879776852 or email [email protected] by June 13.
