Connacht players rewarded

A successful season for Connacht Rugby continued with the selection of a number of players on Ireland teams.

Ireland coach Joe Schmidt has rewarded five Connacht players for their consistent performances this season in his squad for the World Cup pre-season training.

As expected Bundee Aki, with 17 Irish caps to date, is named in the 40 man squad, joined by the half-back pair of Jack Carty, who made his debut in the Six Nations this season, and Kieran Marmion, having fully recovered from injury.

Up front there is good news for Finlay Bealham, who returns to the squad after making his first appearance of nine caps in 2016, while lock Ultan Dillane is rewarded for his return to top form this season.

Not included is Quinn Roux, who missed the last part of the Connacht season with a virus.

At U20 level three Connacht players were named in the travelling squad to Argentina for the World Championships which kick off next week.

The include Corinthians' Dylan Tierney-Martin from Moycullen and the Buccaneers' pair of Niall Murray and Colm Reilly. Another Buccaneer player, winger Jordan Conroy was a member of the Ireland 7s which finished in sixth place.
