Put your paws on the prom for MADRA

Television personality and veterinarian, Dr Pete Wedderburn – known at Pete the Vet – is calling on Galway dog lovers to support MADRA’s upcoming Paws on the Prom Dogathon event.

The walk takes place on Sunday May 26 at 1pm from the Claddagh to Blackrock in what has become MADRA’s biggest fundraising event of the year.

Dr Wedderburn describes the work of the Connemara-based dog rescue and adoption charity as “essential” and is hoping there will be 1,000 paws on the prom this year - human or canine.

“Not all dogs have homes or someone who cares for them,” says Dr Wedderburn. “What is so important about MADRA is that, not only do they take in unwanted dogs, they bring them back to health and match them to the right home.

“This is something that MADRA absolutely excel at. They have so much experience assessing the character and personality of a dog, meeting with families, and reflecting on which dog will be the best fit for that family. They are really good at making those matches.”

The 2019 MADRA Dogathon is an event for all the family and an opportunity for dog lovers and dog owners alike to support the work of the rescue and adoption charity.

To register, log on to www.madra.ie and the first 200 registrations will receive a free doggie goodie bag. Registration is €10 per adult, €5 per child, or €25 for a family (two adults and two children ).

The dog who raises the most sponsorship will be this year’s grand canine marshal and will win a professional cover photo shoot for MADRA’s 2020 calendar. Registrations also take place on Dogathon day, Sunday May 26, from 11am at the Claddagh Hall.
