Fun on the streets as well as the sea for the Volvo

Street theatre, music concerts, art exhibitions, and food tasting will be taking place in Galway when the Volvo Ocean Race hits the city from May 23 to June 6.

Street theatre events - aimed at all the family - will take place in the Race Village and on the Green Dragon route. The performances will be by Arcana, Buí Bolg, Luxe, and Tumble Circus, Promenade Beach Party, Lá Gaeilge, and Galway Community Circus.

The public will also be able to enjoy the Volvo Ocean Race simulator, model boat racing, the grinder challenge, an air display by the Red Arrows, and two world record attempts.

There will also be free concerts by the Hothouse Flowers, Sharon Shannon, Aslan, The Stunning, Kíla, The Coronas, and Lucia Evans. Art enthusiasts can follow the art trail which will involve 18 exhibitions around the city, and talks at the Galway City Museum.

Food lovers can experience the best of the city’s restaurant menus at the Race Village while mariners will have a chance to see the Volvo Open 70s up close, take the PUMA Mast Challenge, participate in sailing events such as the GB09 Cruiser Championships and junior sailing events, and view the traditional boat racing on Galway Bay.
