Anna Mieke - new music, Galway gig

ANNA MIEKE, the Irish singer-songwriter has just released her new single, 'Creature', while tomorrow sees the launch of her new album, and on Saturday she plays the Róisín Dubh.

Anna Mieke's music draws on Irish folk, sean-nós, as well as Maori songs from New Zealand, and the traditional music she has picked up from travels through Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. Broadcaster Philip King has praised her voice's "alluring melody of intimacy", and called it "a wonderful and very welcome gift".

'Creature' was inspired by a performance Anna saw in Tipperary of a dancer, Marion Cronin, creating shadows behind a hanging sheet in response to music. Cronin also features in the video for the single. Further inspiration was derivied from Oscar Wilde’s story 'The Happy Prince'.

Anna releases her new album, Idle Mind, tomorrow via www.annamieke.com or Bandcamp. She plays the upstairs bar of the Róisín Dubh this Saturday at 8pm. Tickets are €10.
