The New Park Hotel in Athenry ticks all the boxes

In the historically significant heritage town of Athenry, there are a lot of dining options. You can get Italian, Chinese, Indian, or any amount of modern Irish. It wasn't always this way. The original place to go was the New Park Hotel, and it still is a stand out destination for people travelling through the town.

There is lots to love about the New Park Hotel. Located on Cross Street in the heart of Athenry, guests are less than five minutes from Athenry Castle, Athenry Heritage Centre, local shops, and the train station provides regular trains in and out of Galway daily. With takeaway brown bread, crumbles, and desserts, there is not much more you could wish for. Beauticians, hair salons, pharmacies, pubs and restaurants are all around. It is perhaps the perfect base to explore Galway and the Wild Atlantic Way.

It is a seven days a week operation here, it has breakfasts of frys and poached eggs to set you up for the day. Lunch is a selection of salads and hearty sandwiches with a choice of hot dishes including daily specials. The a la carte evening menu is available also. It is a very popular spot with the locals.

This small hotel is kept busy throughout the summer with tourists and those travelling for business, but it is a regular haunt for locals too. In some hotel restaurants the food comes second to the accommodation, but here it is firmly placed first. Whether staying for business or pleasure, The New Park ticks all the boxes. It is a great location to explore Connemara and the west. The relaxed atmosphere and welcoming staff means it has won a large share of repeat custom, ensuring its popularity through the cold winter months. During the day the bar and restaurant is a hub of activity with friends enjoying lunch. By night the atmosphere is fun and relaxed, it is a place to enjoy good food and drink.

The New Park has a well earned reputation as a quality, value for money establishment, while most of the menu is made of traditional favourites, there are some more interesting dishes for the adventurous eater. The portions here are very generous, another reason I suspect for its popularity with the locals.

This is a great local bar and restaurant which continues to please with its well priced menu. It has become firmly rooted in the community and developed strong relationships with the customers. The team have recognised that an emphasis placed firmly on customer service, choice, and value will ensure people keep coming back.

The hotel does sleeping, meeting, dining, and relaxing well and mixes these things with an enthusiastic, personable, staff who clearly enjoy what they do. A very welcoming retreat with competent, uncomplicated, cooking, and Irish hospitality at its finest. The New Park is not so much a hotel, it is more of a restaurant that happens to have rooms, and long may it last.
