Galway Rural Development — working through partnership

Many hands make light work — the key to success. Galway Rural Development is pleased to be collaborating with a number of different organisations in Galway in order to deliver top quality education and training. Many of the courses are offered in partnership with Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board, and in the past few years GRD has also hosted workshops with Croi, Youthwork Ireland, Aids West, Healthy Ireland, TUSLA, Galway County PPN, and Galway County Libraries.

Pooling resources enables GRD to deliver training in the areas and on the topics that are needed most in the rural communities it serves. In addition to the labour market courses such as SafePass, HACCP, manual handling, and door guarding and security, GRD offers courses such as gardening, cooking, sewing, millinery, and make-up techniques. Community group courses on corporate governance, management committee skills, and data protection are also available through GRD's digital training programme. All these courses are free, subject to eligibility.

So far this year GRD has run more than 20 courses, some one-day courses and some which take place one day a week over a number of weeks. The Social Inclusion Community Activation Programme (SICAP ) which funds the courses covers the whole county of Galway, allowing GRD to provide courses on the islands and in many locations in Connemara as well as towns in east Galway including Ballygar, Tuam, Loughrea, Ballinasloe, Portumna, and Gort.
