Galway camogie seek top seeding

Galway senior camogie women host All Ireland champions Cork in Gort on Sunday (3pm ) to determine the top seeds in group two.

Cathal Murray’s troops remain unbeaten, after getting the better of Waterford by 1-14 to 1-6 at Carriganore last weekend. It ensured they have qualified for the division one semi-finals, and they now face Cork, who also boast a 100 per cent record from three rounds.

Last weekend Ailish O’Reilly hit a goal and three points, while Carrie Dolan slotted eight from placed balls to guarantee their place in the semi-finals, while Kilkenny and Limerick also enjoyed wins over Offaly and Dublin to maintain their unbeaten run.

Beth Carton hit all six of Waterford’s points, but they failed to get enough points with the first-half wind, and Dolan exploited any ill discipline with her freetaking.

Noreen Coen opened with a super point, but it took another 10 minutes before O’Reilly added to Galway's tally.

Ann Marie Starr, Heather Cooney and Lorraine Ryan were to the fore, and though Carton finally got Waterford off the mark with an 18th minute free, Galway moved five clear, with Dolan converting four frees and Coen also splitting the posts.

However three frees from Carton and a Tobin goal put the teams level, until a Folan free put Galway in front by 0-8 to 1-4 at the break.

Waterford could only manage two points after the resumption, while Dolan, Coen and O’Reilly stretched the margin before O’Reilly rifled a shot to the net in the 42nd minute.
