The Stunning set to be honoured at Mayor's Ball

Mayor Niall McNelis to recognise much loved Galway band's contribution to the city's arts scene

The Stunning, one of the finest bands to ever emerge from Galway, and whose songs, 'Brewing Up A Storm' and 'Half Past Two' are regarded as Irish rock classics, will be honoured at the upcoming Mayoral Ball.

The 2019 Mayors Ball will take place on Saturday March 2 in the Galmont Hotel. Proceeds from this black tie event will go to seven charities, selected by the Mayor of Galway, Labour councillor Niall McNelis: Salthill/ Knocknacarra Cardiac 1st Responders, Pieta House, RNLI, Let's Get Talking, Rosabel's Rooms, Self Help Africa, and the Galway Rape Crisis Centre.

The night will also see the Mayor present the Mayor's Music Award to The Stunning. Led by County Clare brothers Joe and Steve Wall, The Stunning formed in Galway in the late 1980s and were a significant part of the upsurge in creativity in the city during that period. They released the classic album, Paradise In The Picturehouse in 1990. The band initially called it a day in the mid-1990s, but have re-formed from time to time since, most recently playing a successful concert in Leisureland before Christmas.

Tickets are €100 and available from Treasure Chest and The Galmont Hotel.
