Funding for up to 40 fisheries’ officer positions, that will be recruited across six river basin districts by Inland Fisheries Ireland, have been approved and applications for the posts are now being sought.
Galway East TD and Minister with responsibility for Fisheries Seán Canney is urging people with an interest in fisheries to apply for these seasonal jobs. He said the posts are an “opportunity to protect and develop Ireland’s rivers, lakes, and waterways during the summer months”.
Fisheries officers enforce fisheries legislation, protecting against illegal activity and supporting development through the maintenance of angling infrastructure. The roles are available on a six months’ basis with contracts beginning from late April. There are five vacancies in the Western River Basin District for Galway city and Ballinakill, County Galway, and Ballina and Bangor Erris, in counties Mayo and Sligo.
