Kilcornan walking trail receives Government funding

Almost €200,000 has been approved for the development of amenity

Funding of almost €200,000 has been approved for the development of a walking trail in Kilcornan, which is expected to transform the area's woodland into a leading attraction for locals and tourists.

The €199,766 allocation was one of four Galway projects which received funds via the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme. A total fund of €536,966 was divided between the four Galway projects. The scheme finances the development and maintenance of outdoor amenities such as greenways and walking trails.

The funding has been welcomed by Fine Gael Galway West TD Hildegarde Naughton, who said the walking trail in Kilcornan, Clarinbridge, would capitalise on the "natural and historic beauty" of the setting, and would prove "extremely popular for visitors on the Wild Atlantic Way".

“There has been large growth in the recreational tourism sector, and an increasing number of visitors to Ireland are particularly interested in walking, cycling and exploring natural settings and activities," she said. “This substantial investment will put Clarinbridge on the map in that context, and Kilcornan can become a popular spotting point for tourists travelling on the Wild Atlantic Way."
