FARAWAY MARTIN does not do things by half measures. He is based in Qatar, sings songs about drunkenness to people who never imbibe, and has even run a marathon in North Korea.
Martin is about to return home to Ireland, where he will play his first headline show upstairs in Róisín Dubh on Friday December 28 at 8pm. He is also releasing his debut single, Intoxicated'.
"I'm based in Doha, Qatar, teaching music and taking every opportunity available to travel," Martin says. "Everywhere I go I bring the guitar and my travels have influenced my songwriting, in particular reflecting on Ireland and the culture we have. 'Intoxicated' is lost on a lot of people out here in the Middle East. Many of the fortunate souls here will never understand 'the fear' or the other Irishisms in the song, however they sing along anyway!"
Martin has supported Mick Flannery, Hermitage Green, and Galway Street Club. He has recorded in Nashville, and releases his next single in January. Tickets are €10 and available on the door.
