Paraic Breathnach - The Macnas Was On Me

Brathnach charts his adventures from 1960s Connemara to 1980s Galway city in new comedy show

FOLLOWING ITS successful premiere at the Vodafone Comedy Carnival Galway in October, Paraic Breathnach is bringing his new show, The Macnas Was On Me, to the Nuns Island Theatre, for one night only.

In the show, Paraic explores the idea that 'Macnas' is a clinical condition which forces sufferers to do daft things at the drop of a hat and which existed even before the foundation of Macnas itself. Indeed Paraic blames the syndrome for leading him astray and into the world of theatre.

The stories start in 1960s Connemara and culminates in the vibrant cultural scene of Galway in the 1980s. Along the way there are side swipes at the powers that be, the established church, and forces opposed to any sort of Macnas appearing on the streets at that time. Paraic will also talk about his work with Druid, Macnas, and the Galway Arts Festival.

The Macnas Was On Me is at Nuns Island Theatre, on Thursday December 13 at 8pm Admission is €10/8. Paraic will tour the show nationwide in the spring.
