Concert in Augustinian Church in aid of St Vincent de Paul

Helen Hancock, a soprano from Oranmore will present a beautiful evening of singing and music in the Augustinian Church, Galway at 8pm on Friday November 9. The concert will also feature her singing teacher, international tenor Owen Gilhooly along with cellist Peter Sébestyén and pianist Ramin Haghjoo.

The programme on the evening to be MCed by Mark Gantlywill be varied with music from Baroque to opera and from sacred to musical theatre. Members of the public of all ages are invited to come along. Proceeds from the concert will go to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Tickets are available in advance from Vincent’s shop and Spar, Oranmore, Opus II in Galway city and on the door.

Ms Hancock also a music teacher and conductor in Coole Music, Galway, is in her fourth year of vocal studies with Owen Gilhooly at the Midwest Vocal Academy in Limerick .

“It is a dream come true to be singing again. Becoming a classical singer has been a very rewarding journey and, in my case, an awakening of sorts. I am so grateful to my teacher Owen for his continued expertise, mentoring and support. It is a privilege to introduce myself to Galway audiences and share a stage with Owen, Peter, and Ramin to help raise money for a great cause.”

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul currently help people throughout Ireland and locally in Galway city and county who struggle to provide food, heat and clothing for themselves and their families. They cannot do this without the support of donations and fundraising.

Owen Gilhooly, a regular performer in both opera and recital, in Ireland and abroad, has just completed a very successful tour of the world premiere of John O’Brien’s new opera, ‘The Nightingale and the Rose’, which delighted audiences and critics in Cork, Dublin and Limerick. A busy teacher and vocal coach, he is pursuing doctoral studies at the Royal Irish Academy where he is a member of the vocal faculty. Originally from Hungary, Peter is a well-known performer and cello teacher in Galway and Limerick. After graduating from the Liszt Ferenc University in Budapest, he gained a First Class Honours Masters from The World Academy in UL in 2008 where he was on scholarship from Lyric FM. Since 2008 he has been a permanent member of Concerto Malaga chamber orchestra in Spain.

Originally from California, Ramin Haghjoo studied at the University of California, where he received a B.M. in Piano, an M.A. in Music Theory and a Ph.D. in Music Theory. He moved to Galway in 2012 where he now is a well-known teacher, pianist, organist and music director in Galway.
