Galway Baroque Singers to perform Handel's Messiah

Concert will mark a Galway institution's 35th year

In December 1983, a group of singers under the direction of Audrey Corbett staged a performance of Handel’s Messiah to a packed audience. The success of this concert led to the foundation of a permanent choir - the Galway Baroque Singers.

To celebrate the choir's 35th year, it will perform Handel’s Messiah in Galway Cathedral on Sunday November 18 at 3pm. The choir, and Audrey Corbett, will be joined by conductor Prionnsías Ó Duinn, The Dublin Handelian Orchestra, and soloists Aisling Kenny (soprano ), Sharon Carty (mezzo-soprano ), Peter O’Reilly (tenor ), and Robert Mc Allister (bass ).

The Galway Baroque Singers have performed in the National Concert Hall, Dublin, and have performed with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra numerous times. The choir represented Ireland in the Choir of the World Festival in Wales in 1999.

Tickets are €20 (under 14s free ) and available from choir members; Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop; Eventbrite.ie; and at the door.
