Continued success at Colleran’s auction

It was another very successful auction for clients of Don Colleran last week with property prices exceeding his clients' expectations. Described as an auction of quality not quantity, the properties of offer were in some of Galway's most sought after locations including Castlelawn, Newcastle, Salthill, and The Claddagh.

The first property to be offered to a packed auction room was No 129 Castlelawn Heights a beautiful three bedroom semi with many extras. Although this property had generated considerable interest prior to auction, bidding was very slow to open and while to some it appeared there were going to be no bidders Don Colleran's auction experience and persistence paid off. He assured the packed crowd there were a number of bidders in the room, which proved to be the case. When bidding did eventually open at €220,000 it was not long before the bidding exceeded the guide price and the property sold for €247,000.

Next to sell was No 14 Whitestrand Road, a charming and very distinctive large detached property in Lower Salthill. Like the previous property bidding was very slow to open, and again the auctioneer had to use his considerable experience to get an opening bid of €510,000; even then it appeared there was only one buyer at the very back of the room until another man in the middle of the room started bidding, eventually securing this very distinguished home for €540,000.

The last property to sell was No 10B Laurel Park, a first floor three bedroom apartment close to the university and hospital which was bought for €160,000.

One property that did not sell, and which is now available to purchase by private treaty at a guide of only €375,000, is No 23 Upper Fairhill, Claddagh, Galway. This is a charming two bedroom detached home on a large corner site in one of Galway's most sought after areas just off Salthill Promenade, less than a 10 minute stroll from the city centre. Don Colleran concluded proceedings by announcing his next auction will be on December 6, and he is now offering a free property valuation for anyone thinking of selling.
