THREE YEARS ago, Galwegian Jamie Marshall was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. "Since then Cancer Care West has been my lifeline. They have done so much for me I wanted to give something back."
As a result, Jamie is organising "a marathon open mic" session in The Black Gate cultural Centre, St Francis Street, on Sunday October 21 from 6pm until midnight, and the event will raise funds for Cancer Care West.
"Everyone is welcome to come and read," says Jamie. "It can be your own work or a poem or extract from your favourite novel. Readers will have a five minute time slot. There is a special hour for children's literature and poems from 6pm to 7pm, so I hope lots of young readers will come along. I look forward to a great night. Please feel free to pop in and support us. If you don't want to read, you can just relax and listen."
There will be a €5 donation on the door.
