FROM HIS days with The Simpsons, to writing and directing with Pixar, Brad Bird has been at the forefront of animation for the past 30 years, and the Pálás Cinema is celebrating the man with a season of his films.

Ahead of the release of Pixar’s The Incredibles 2 on July 13, the Pálás will screen The Incredibles (2004 ), written by Bird; Ratatouille (2007 ), written and directed by Bird; and The Iron Giant (1999 ), directed by Bird, and adapted from Ted Hughes classic children's novel The Iron Man.

In The Iron Giant, a young boy befriends a giant robot from outer space, and helps the robot stand up against those who are seeking to destroy it. See it on Friday June 22 at 3pm and 8.30pm. The Incredibles is about a family with very special powers, and who find it difficult to get the balance right between domestic life and saving the world. It will be screened on Saturday 23 at 3pm. Ratatouille follows an irrepressible gourmet rat who dreams of being a chef. He becomes friends with a kitchen worker and sets in motion an exciting culinary adventure, and showing everyone in the process that high art is for all, not just for the few.
