'Slimming World changed my life'

Katharine Murphy Goodwin, a mum of two, joined Niamh’s Slimming World group in the Westwood Hotel, Galway, in November 2014 and reached her target weight in time for a family wedding nine months later.

"I couldn’t have been happier when I got to target, and am delighted to have kept it off for almost three years," she said. "It is the easiest plan to follow and I never feel deprived. I still attend group each week as you get the support and motivation that you need. Slimming World really gave me my life back."

Katharine lost 80lb by following Slimming World's food optimising plan, filling up on unlimited quantities of 'free' food including fruit and veg, lean meat and fish, eggs, rice, potatoes, and pasta.

"After losing over five and a half stone my life has changed forever," she added. "I was always known as the funny one in my group of friends when in reality I was using humour as my shield. I started to gain weight when my Dad got diagnosed, but when he passed away my weight really spiralled out of control. I decided that I needed to make a change. I walked through the doors of Slimming World and couldn’t believe when my consultant Niamh said I could eat unlimited amounts of 'free' food. I put the plan to the test and lost eight and a half pounds in my first week. I was hooked."

Katharine really embraced the plan by enjoying delicious curries, carbonara, lasagne, and even her favourite chip butties. "I only have to make small changes to the way I cook and I can still enjoy all of my favourite meals," she explained.

"Working in a hospital means I am on my feet a lot. Since losing weight I now use the stairs instead of the lift, walking up to 30,000 steps per day. This is something I never thought I would be able to do before joining Slimming World. It really has changed my life."

Slimming World is held in The Westwood Hotel every Tuesday at 5.30pm and 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome to join. For more information contact Niamh on 087 9638809.
