Thieves make off with ATM in Glasson heist

Gardaí are investigating the theft of an ATM machine from a petrol station in Glasson during the early hours of Saturday morning, Sgt Andrew Haran told the Athlone Advertiser.

It is believed that two or possibly three burglars entered Spollen’s service station through the roof some time after 3am. The thieves made off with cigarettes, a small sum of cash, and an ATM machine. The machine weighs approximately 650 kilos, leading Gardaí to believe that some sort of machinery, like a trolley jack, was used to move it.

After leaving the premises just after 5am, the thieves escaped in an unidentified vehicle towards Ballymahon. Gardaí are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the scene.

The Gardaí are urging anyone who may have seen suspicious activity on the N55 between Athlone and Ballymahon on Saturday morning to come forward. A car transporting something as heavy as an ATM would have been sagging noticeably low at the back.
