Athlone Film Club presents “Frantz”

Athlone Film Club presents the latest installment of its new season - Frantz - on Tuesday, October 3, from 8pm.

This romantic drama, set in post First World War Germany, centres on a grieving woman, Anna, who finds a young Frenchman, Adrien, laying flowers at the grave of her fiancé.

Revealing himself to be an old friend of the deceased man, he is invited into the lives of Frantz’s grieving parents and Anna, captivating them with this new connection to their departed loved one. But was there more to their relationship than is being revealed?

As Adrien reignites an obsolete joy in Anna, the possibilities of life open up to her again, a change reflected as the film changes from monochrome to colour. Set against the backdrop of a defeated Germany, a powerful anti-war messages reverberates throughout the film.

Directed by Francois Ozon, Frantz is certified 18.
