O’Brien welcomes funding to link old CIE road to Greenway

Local Independent councillor, Michael O’Brien, has welcomed the news that €10,000 in funding has been granted to link the old CIE road to the Greenway at Station Road in Moate.

Funding has been granted under the outdoor recreation infrastructure scheme 2017 and matching funding will be provided by the council.

“This link will provide better access from the Rosemount Road and Ballymore Road to the Station Road Greenway access point,” Cllr O’Brien said. “The upgrading of this link is something I’ve been calling for for some time now. This money will go towards surfacing the trail with tar and chip. I’d like to thank the council for making the application and Minister Moran for his assistance.”

Cllr O’Brien added that he is currently working closely with Moate Railway Station Group, the council, and Minister of State, Kevin ‘Boxer ‘Moran, in trying to procure funding for the provision of public lighting along the urban stretch of Greenway from the old railway station to the Lake Road access point.

“This stretch of Greenway is being utilised by thousands of people every week now, so public lighting would make it a lot safer for people using it at night time,” concluded Cllr O’Brien.
