Burke urges students to apply for SUSI grants

Fine Gael Deputy for Longford-Westmeath, Peter Burke, is encouraging students to apply for grant support via the online system, SUSI.

This year’s round of grants is being extended for the first time since 2009.

“The SUSI grant scheme is a great system which I know helps a significant amount of students in this constituency,” Deputy Burke said. “Applications must be completed online at Susi.ie and I would advise students to apply now as they may not be aware of all the documentation needed, as some documents take time to obtain. My office can help any student who needs assistance.”

The Department will grant more than €380 million to 80,000 students across the country. This year there is maintenance grant being introduced for disadvantaged post graduate students, which marks the first expansion of the scheme since 2009. There is also new funding available for mature students who previously dropped out to complete a PLC programme within the five-year break period.

“The priority closing dates for the 2017/18 student grant scheme are July 13 for new applicants and June 15 for renewal students,” Deputy Burke added. “I would advise students to apply early to avoid delays, to allow time for the completion of the form and so that they can be assured of funding before they embark on the next journey of their lives.”
