Lend your support to the Tidy Towns big clean-up!

Athlone Tidy Towns have successfully organised a big clean up, taking place on Good Friday, April 14, from 10am to 2pm.

Following a Tidy Towns workshop in October attended by Athlone Chamber of Commerce, Living Environment, Tidy Towns, and Westmeath County Council a number of detailed actions were identified to highlight the scourge of littering and illegal dumping in Athlone. Mayor John Dolan is calling for a major community-led support for this year's clean-up.

Westmeath County Council and Tidy Towns will provide gloves, bags, pickers, and bibs for people on the day and collect all bags after the event. In the spirit of community involvement, the committee are asking for the following support:

That volunteers from the wider community attend at one of six or more designated zones at times to be determined.

That all sports clubs lend their names to this worthy event, attend a launch on Tuesday, April 4, and supply club members as volunteers on Good Friday.

That businesses associate their names to the event, attend the launch and provide refreshments and volunteers on Good Friday.

The official launch for the event will take place at 5pm on Tuesday, April 4, at the Civic Centre.
