Work rate pleases Cribbin as Westmeath see off Waterford

Westmeath manager Tom Cribbin was thrilled with the work rate of his players during Sunday’s win against Waterford in Division Four of the Allianz Football League.

The Midlanders are hoping to earn promotion with Kieran Martin’s two goals helping them carve out a 3-13 to 2-11 success.

“I’m pleased to be going away with the two points, it is a difficult venue, Waterford are used to it,” Cribbin said in an interview with Midlands Sport 103. “We wouldn’t be getting wind like this in the Midlands at all. In very, very difficult conditions, we created an awful lot of good chances. The thing that is most impressive about the team is the work rate from them. Number one to 15, the work rate is incredible.”

Following three relegations in a row, Cribbin is encouraged by Westmeath’s league form ahead of the summer: “I think we are timing it right, we have a good gap between the end of the league and the championship,” he stated. “We will be able to give the lads a couple of weeks off to let them down, to recharge the batteries for five or six weeks to push hard, to peak again.

“You can’t stay peaking for five or six months, that is just impossible. The guys are putting in a huge effort at the moment, four times a week, it is just incredible.”
