Ballinasloe aims to retain Fit Town title

Following the success of last year’s project, the Fit Town team are hoping that Ballinasloe will be a serious contender in the competition for the second year running.

The team have been working together with clubs and schools over the last number of months to plan an inclusive programme of events which will appeal to a wide range of people.

Last year was an outstanding year for Ballinasloe, winning the title of Galway’s Fittest Town and also being honoured with the Cathaoirleach’s Community Awards in Sport. At the launch of this year’s Fit Town Project, Connacht Rugby head coach Pat Lam said the Fit Towns initiative provides a real opportunity for communities to build relationships through sport, for the good of all the people.

This year sees even more organisations getting involved, which extends the choice of activities available. The Activity Period for 2017 will be from Monday, February 13 to Sunday, March 26. Full details of events and activities can also be viewed at and on

Where advanced booking is required, it is advised to book your chosen activity as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
