Most people have heard of Bikram Yoga or hot yoga by now, but there are still a lot of people who have not yet braved the room and experienced it. So it is always encouraging to see what it can actually do for you.
The accompanying photos demonstrate proof of what a year of regular Bikram yoga practice did for Theresa Parker. Theresa attends class twice a week. The photos show the increase of strength and flexibility she achieved in her whole body. In the first photo Theresa’s back is quite rounded as she has tightness down the back of her legs and through her spine. In the second photo Theresa’s hamstrings and all down the back of her legs have released, allowing her spine to elongate down her legs, creating more flexibility into both her legs and spine. It is important not to force the body and allow the body to gradually open up little by little.
If you have never tried Bikram Yoga, hopefully this is the little push that you need. You do not have to be strong or flexibile to do yoga; that is what the yoga is going to give you.
Bikram Yoga is a 26-posture and two-breathing exercise series which takes place in a room heated to 40 degrees with 40 per cent humidity to make you strengthen and stretch safely. The heat and humidity means your heart and lungs are worked so it becomes a cardiovascular and aerobic workout. It is suitable for everyone as each person works at their own pace and fitness level. There are so many benefits to Bikram Yoga, both physical and mental. It can help back pain, arthritis, blood pressure, respiratory problems, thyroid regulation, depression, stress management, and can help balancing emotions. It can be very helpful as part of a weight loss programme.
