Creative students from Our Lady’s Bower Secondary School, Eleanor Dwyer, Jennifer Siak, and Emma Clarke, were announced as the overall winners at the Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture Grand Final 2016 in the 3Arena, Dublin on April 14.

This week the team were presented with their prizes by Bank of Ireland (BOI ) Junk Kouture co-founder, Elizabeth Curran, BOI youth banking manager, Ciara Armstrong and local BOI branch representative, Sheila Fallon. Their team’s prize pool consisted of €2,500 for their school, €500 cash for themselves, an iPad mini for each of them, plus an iPad mini for their teacher Oonagh Kelly.

Elizabeth Curran said: “Jewel of the Nylon’ is a very worthy winner and the team deserve all the credit they get. There were almost 1,500 entries this year and the standard of the designs was at a whole new level. Every year I am blown away by the creativity and passion shown by the young designers, it is truly phenomenal. The Athlone girls did themselves, their families, friends, and their school extremely proud.”

The team’s glamourous design, constructed from crocheted tights made a dramatic impact on the 3Arena catwalk in front of more than 5,000 spectators and the Junk Judges – Louis Walsh, Vogue Williams, stylist Rob Condon, LSAD’s Tracy Fahey, and Vogue India’s Lorna McGee.

Laura Lynch, head of youth banking, Bank of Ireland added: “On behalf of Bank of Ireland, I’d like to congratulate the entire ‘Jewel of the Nylon’ team for their incredibly innovative and beautiful design. The intricacy of the detail is breathtaking and their hard work really paid off as the final result proved at the 3Arena. I have no doubt their exquisite design will continue to inspire many others who take part in the future.”
