Thyme named best restaurant in Westmeath

The Irish Restaurant Awards is proud to announce Thyme Restaurant as Dalcassian Wines & Spirits and Astoria Wines Best Restaurant in County Westmeath for 2016. The prestigious title was revealed at the Irish Restaurant Awards Leinster regional event which took place in Croke Park recently.

Sponsored by Dalcassian Wines & Spirits and Astoria Wines, the Best Restaurant title is considered to be one of the highest accolades in the annual awards. Speaking of the awards, chief executive of the Restaurants Association of Ireland Adrian Cummins commented, “To win this title, a restaurant must appeal to the public while scoring highly amongst the judging panel. It’s not an easy task but should be celebrated when achieved.”

Thyme Restaurant will now go on to compete for the Leinster regional and All Ireland titles, which will be announced at the Irish Restaurant Awards in the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel, Dublin on Monday, May 16.

There are three components to this phase of the process.

The Mystery Guest Visit makes up 55 per cent of the mark, with all county winners to receive a mystery guest visit throughout the month of March, April, or May.

The National Awards Academy decides on 35 per cent of the mark, and will meet in early May to judge the county winners. Academy members include food writers, journalists, bloggers, culinary academics, and hospitality magazine editors.

All county winners in each category are also asked to submit a copy of their food menu and wine list for judging, which makes up the final 10 per cent.
