Get ‘MOVEing’ this Movember

Movember brought back the moustache and now it is bringing ‘MOVE,’ a 30-day fitness challenge to raise funds and awareness for men’s health.

MOVE is a global initiative being rolled out for the first time this year across 21 countries worldwide. In Ireland, comedian Andrew Stanley, TV and radio presenter Ray D’Arcy, model and food blogger Rozanna Purcell, and Irish Olympian Rob Heffernan, will pave the way for the Irish people to take a stand and increase awareness for men’s health, by getting active throughout the month of MOVEmber.

The four MOVE ambassadors will lead the charge by each taking on their own individual challenge. The nation can follow their efforts on Twitter @MovemberIreland throughout the month.

Participants in Ireland are invited to register at and commit to 30 moves in 30 days. How people ‘move’ is up to them, but it needs to be a minimum of 20 minutes of moderate exercise per day for the full 30 days. Whether it is a gym class, a hula-hooping session, an hour-long brisk walk, or a long distance cycle, nothing is too big or too small.

Of course, Movember will always be about the moustache, and people across the country are still invited to grow to raise funds. However, this new initiative means there is more than one way to get involved.

Ray D’Arcy said of the initiative: “It’s great to be part of such a positive Movember initiative that focuses on men’s health in its entirety, from mental to physical, and just how important being active is to both. I’m pretty active already, but I’m looking forward to a new challenge and making a small contribution towards men’s health.”

MOVE is directly linked to Movember’s vision of having an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health. Adam Garone, CEO of Movember, said: “We all know that exercise is good for us, but MOVE isn’t just about fitness. MOVE is about shaking up the routine. It is about trying something new. It’s about moving in unusual ways, challenging yourself, getting your friends on board, and doing something good for you and men’s health.”
