McFadden welcomes start of A&E upgrade

Local Fine Gael TD, Gabrielle McFadden, has welcomed the news that the €4 million upgrade of the A&E at the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar is to start shortly.

To facilitate these major works, existing A&E services have relocated to a temporary building at the hospital while the refurbishment works are taking place at the Emergency Department. The A&E upgrade will mean a better layout for both patients and staff and it is hoped that the refurbished facility will open by early 2016 at the very latest.

Due to the temporary relocation of A&E services Mullingar Hospital is asking people to be aware of the external and internal signage in and around the hospital.

“I’m also glad to learn that planning for a larger project at the hospital, involving a new build, is also progressing well,” said Deputy McFadden. “This significant building project, costing in the region of €40 million, will incorporate four new theatres, a new ICU, a new Endoscopy Unit, with a Rehab Unit and therapy area to be located on another floor. The new building is to be located at the front of the hospital.”
