New online group for John Broderick fans

A new online group has been launched in an endeavour to promote John Broderick.

The John Broderick Society set up the Facebook page to promote the author and his works to a wider audience.

The society provides a forum for fans of Athlone’s John Broderick (1924 to 1989 ) to exchange news and views connected to his life and with his works. The society can trace its origins back to the John Broderick Committee which organised the first John Broderick weekend in 1999.

The original organising committee was George Eaton (chairman ), Gearoid O’Brien, Carmel Duffy, Dermot Fox, Simon Cavanagh, Christy Bigley, Mel O’Flynn, Dr Patrick Murray, and Vera Hughes.

With laudable efforts being made by the local authority in developing Destination Athlone, the society decided to support efforts to promote the cultural and literary heritage of the town.

Already with over 100 Likes it is hoped that many more people will visit the pages, and become familiar with John Broderick’s writings, especially his 12 novels.
