Bowling Night in aid of AAW

Athlone Animal Welfare (AAW ) have announced a fundraising bowling night for Saturday April 12. The proceeds from the event will be used to support the charity’s spay and neuter scheme, and their public assistance programme. Both initiatives have been very successful over the past year but funding pools are now exhausted.

AAW spent approximately €1,500 on trap, neuter, and release (TNR ) projects and assisting people to spay and neuter their cats. In total 55 cats were neutered through this programme. While the number may seem small, the impact is huge when you consider that a couple of unneutered cats and all their offspring can produce almost 12 million cats in nine years. In addition to this AAW also contributed to a separate TNR campaign undertaken by two local volunteers who are targeting specific populations of feral and stray cats in the locality.

The public assistance fund is used to treat emergency cases of injured stray animals and to help those in genuine need of financial assistance to treat their pets. However, the ability to operate either is based on the funding available. AAW urgently needs your help to continue to support the local community and keep these programmes going.

So if you are looking for a fun way to spend your Saturday night with friends or family, call (085 ) 1657200 to register your team and support this worthy cause. Alternatively you can drop by on the night.

The event takes place in the bowling alley at Athlone Leisure Centre starting at 8pm. Entry is €40 per team of four for a game and the team with the highest score at the end of the night will win a trophy kindly sponsored by David Fitzgerald Trophies.
