Free Alzheimer’s education workshop in Ballinasloe

Following the success of last year’s educational workshops for families of people living with Alzheimer’s disease, Home Instead Senior Care has announced a free workshop to be held in Ballinasloe next week.

The workshop takes place in Gullane’s Hotel from 6-9pm on Wednesday February 19. This free education programme will provide a fresh, tailored approach to help friends and family members manage Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia symptoms and behaviours.

“We’ve had a phenomenal response to our first series of workshops. Many people who are caring for family members with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia are isolated and are struggling to cope as they care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s,” says Colman Gately of Home Instead Senior Care.

Approximately 80 per cent of Alzheimer’s home care is provided by family members. Home Instead Senior Care’s Alzheimer’s CARE programme, based on input from renowned ageing and dementia experts, offers a much-needed resource for coping with challenges presented by the disease while maintaining your loved one’s dignity and helping them live more fulfilling lives.

“As our population continues to age, it is essential for current and future caregivers to be educated and prepared on how to manage behaviours associated with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia. We hope that by reaching such a wide audience, more family caregivers will be equipped with the proper knowledge and tools to face the everyday challenges of the disease,” said Colman.

Participants attending the Alzheimer’s CARE education workshops will receive information packs with tips and practical advice on caring for loved ones with dementia and caring for the carers. They will also receive an information sheet with useful information on resources such as websites and associations.

The workshop takes place from 6-9pm on Wednesday February 19 in Gullane’s Hotel, Ballinasloe. It is free of charge; however booking is essential. For more information or to book your place please contact Home Instead Senior Care on (091 ) 384160 or www.homeinstead.ie
