Mountaineering tales at Outdoor Sports

Following on from previous years’ successes, Outdoor Sports Mullingar is delighted to announce that it will host another event in its premises in Mullingar Business Park on March 26 at 7.30pm.

‘The Man Who Married a Mountain and Other Stories. How the Irish conquered the Alps’ is the title of a talk which will be given by Declan O’Keeffe, historian and mountaineer, and which was heard recently on RTE Radio 1’s The History Show.

In his talk Declan will regale you with tales of adventurers including Mullingar natives Anthony Adams Reilly, the first man to map Mount Blanc, and Lieutenant Colonel Charles Kenneth Howard-Bury, who led the first expedition to Everest in 1921.

Declan’s 45-minute talk tracks the path of Irish mountaineers in the Victorian age and is sure to give you a fascinating insight into the golden age of Alpine mountaineering.

All are welcome to attend this event, which is free of charge; however you should arrive early to ensure a seat.

If people have any queries about this event, Outdoor Sports can be contacted on (044 ) 9333572. Further details can be obtained on their Facebook page: Outdoor Sports Mullingar.
