Hilarious Carnage for Little Theatre

Beware and prepare for next Monday, October 1, when the God of Carnage himself visits Athlone Little Theatre for a hotly anticipated six nights.

Mel O’Flynn’s production of Yazmina Reza’s monstrously popular play is eagerly awaited. Yazmina Reza has been hailed as the Lady Gaga of contemporary theatre. Her mercilessly witty scripts have delighted audiences in five continents. God of Carnage has been made into a hit film starring Kate Winslett.

Mel’s production here in Athlone tells the story of Michael, Veronica, Annette, and Alan, two married couples who meet to resolve a fight which has broken out between their children. This searing look at the lives of the middle classes is a pure theatrical roller coaster ride. It is by turns hilarious and scary.

Mel O’Flynn has assembled a sparkling cast. Frank O’Brien, from Tullamore, dazzles as Michael, a well-to-do manufacturer whose passion for modern art and fancy French tart form only a thin veneer over what is basically innate savagery.

Veronica is a powerhouse performance by Nicola Ross O’Sullivan, a gifted actress making a welcome return to the Little Theatre after several years.

As Annette, the radiant Aoife Connolly makes her own triumphant return to the scene of many memorable performances, while the theatre is delighted to welcome back the wonderful Ronan Fagan as the relentlessly smooth Alan.

The action opens on Monday October 1 at 8.30pm. Your window to true carnage exists until Saturday, October 6.

Bookings can be made at the Little Theatre, St Mary’s Place, or by calling (090 ) 6474324.
