Preview all-new Opel Adam reveals chic city car

With the all-new Adam, Opel is entering the A-segment with a chic, small, urban car. It combines bold, powerful design with what Opel describes as a potential for almost unlimited level of personalisation, making each Adam unique. It should arrive here in the first quarter of 2013, writes Padraic Deane.

The Adam, which is called after Adam Opel, will feature a host of premium technologies including an onboard infotainment system that will make online applications available in the car through smartphones such as Android and Apple iOS.

Measuring almost 3.70 meters in length (1.72 meters width excl. mirrors ), Opel say that the agile three-door is perfect for urban environments. And inside its cabin, the Adam offers seating for four people who will benefit from its premium interior and a high degree of spaciousness which is unusual for a small car. The new small car will target trendy urban customers who are looking for a car that expresses their personal style.

“The new Opel Adam offers lots of growth potential for our brand and we are very proud that our fashionable small car brings German engineering excellence to its segment,” says Opel CEO Karl-Friedrich Stracke. “In fact, the Adam is the only A-segment car that will be exclusively built in Germany. We are sure that it will get a fantastic reception in Paris at its world premiere in September”.

Initially, The Opel Adam will be offered with three efficient petrol engines (1.2 liter 70 bhp, 1.4 liter 87 bhp, and 1.4 liter 100 bhp ) combined with a five-speed manual transmission. All powertrains are available with an ecoFLEX technology pack including fuel-saving Start/Stop technology.

Later on, a new generation small petrol engine will make its premiere in the Adam, featuring direct injection turbocharging for further enhanced efficiency and performance. This new engine will be combined with a completely new generation six-speed manual transmission.

The all-new Opel Adam will be available to order after its official world premiere at the Paris Motor Show (end of September ). The first cars will hit the showrooms here in early 2013, with more details on prices and Irish specifications closer to the launch date.
