Athlone motorbike racer sets his sights on cross-channel challenge

Seventeen-year-old Athlone native Cody Nally has clinched a deal to compete in the British Superstock Motorcycle Championships for 2009.

Nally, who had his first race win at Mondello Park in 2006, quickly moved up the ranks in the Irish Clubmans 600cc championships having begun his biking career aboard an Aprillia 125cc in 2004.

Having competed with big names such as Alastair Seeley and alongside Relentless Suzuki's Ian Lowry at the front of the grid during the Mondello Masters competition last October, Cody finished in a highly creditable second place for the Clubmans Championship earlier in the year.

"I've been monitoring Cody during the year, the talent and potential are there and I believe he's going to make it to the top; with Billy McConnell as team mate we have one of the youngest teams in the paddock, so I'm sure the lads will keep me on my toes and I can't wait for the season to commence," said Steve Rodgers of Raceways Yamaha UK.

"I'm absolutely over the moon and delighted to be given the opportunity to ride for Raceways UK. The Yamahas have performed consistently well for me during the year and it's like a dream come true to progress onto the BSB grid with such an established and professional outfit. I'm really looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead and would like to thank my sponsors Des Nally Developments, Doyles Motorcycles of Athlone and also my family who have helped me so much throughout the year," said Cody.

Work starts early for the Lancashire-based team next year, with fitness training to commence up in the Welsh mountains in January, followed by pre-season motorcycle testing in Spain.
